4D Library Support Page

Installation Guide for Mac and PC

Note: This guide is for version 27 - 29
24 - 26 users must use the PDF installation guide found here

Step 1.

ArchiCAD must be closed for Step 1.

Mac Users

Simply double click the 4D Library Installer .pkg for your version. This will,

  • Install the 4D Tools.bundle
  • Install help files available from the help menu - documentation
  • Install 4D Library weblinks

PC Users

Simply double click the 4D Library Installer .msi for your version. This will,

  • Install the 4D Tools.apx
  • Install help files available from the help menu - documentation
  • Install 4D Library weblinks
  • Register the 4D Library with Windows Add and Remove programs.
  • Upgrades can now be installed over existing installs. So you don't have to 'un-install' first

Step 2

Open ArchiCAD
The "4D Library" menu should now be visible

Load the library using the ArchiCAD Library Manager. This in the File menu -> Libraries and Objects -> Library Manager

1. Click the Add... button and locate your library.
2. Check for duplicates. Look at the warning and make sure there are no duplicate 4D Library parts. This can be caused by loading multiple versions of the 4D Library

NOTE: The library must be in a writable folder at all times.  See here for more information about this

Step 3

From the 4D Library menu select '4D Library Online Registration...'

Then from the dialog you enter the provide Company ID.

You should then see the 'Success' Message.

Step 4

Sometimes you may need to setup the work environment, particularly when installing build 45 over an old build of the 4D Library. See the screen shot in the gallery to the right. Note: A work environment ships with the download if you care to use this one instead.

We have had a report of the unzipped PC library not having permissions set correctly and it becomes impossible to fix.

If this is the case, it appears that sometimes on PC, the .zip file will need this security tick box checked. This MUST be done before unzipping.

How to find out what addon and library you have

From the object tool in ArchiCAD, select or search for 'Tech Support Object'

This object will display the API Version and the Library Version.

Because of the many upgrades the library has had over the years, its very important to keep the API and Library versions the same. So when you download a new library - run the installer and load the library that came with it, through the library manager

Getting this Message 'Addon out of date' ?

This message means you have updated your library, but you haven't updated your 4D Tools add-on.

How to fix it

PC

You need to run the "4D Library XX installer.msi" that was downloaded with the library

Mac

You need to run the "4D Tools XX Installer.pkg" that was downloaded with the library

What is installed? And where?

The installer places the 4D Tools 2X into the addons folder. This folder can be found here on windows.

It is totally fine to copy just the 4D Tools 2X.apx and paste the 4D Tools into another machines Add-ons folder - as long as its the same build. The installer itself will install the Help PDF's and links. But are not essential for running of the library

C:\Program Files\Graphisoft\Archicad 26\Add-Ons

C:\Program Files\Graphisoft\Archicad 27\Add-Ons

C:\Program Files\Graphisoft\Archicad 28\Add-Ons

C:\Program Files\Graphisoft\Archicad 29\Add-Ons

2. Run the .msi installer found on the downloads page..

If the library is locked and everything else is okay

There is an intermittent issue that we are working on.. its very hard to pin point

but try this..

  • Open the tech support object… look at library and API version..
  • Then close the object
  • Go to the library manager
  • Reload libraries.
  • Check - objects should now be okay..

Spinning circle after activation and nothing happens.

This shows that a replacement addon is required because of new server restrictions.

Use one of the options above (In the first topic).. 1. Replace the addon manually or 2. re-install the library.

No 4D Library Menu Showing in Menu Bar?

  • Version 27: make sure you have a minimum build number of 6000 (Update 27.3.0)
  • Version 26: make sure you have a minimum build number of 7004 (Update 5)
  • Also.. if your ArchiCAD installation is not in the default C: Drive folder.. you may need to manually move the 4D Tools apx. Eg the ArchiCAD 29 4D Tools should be here

C:\Program Files\Graphisoft\Archicad 29\Add-Ons

But a different location (Custom installation) will require manual placement of the 4D Tools

Tech Support Object

A great way to check the availability of the registered licenses for the currently loaded 4D Library is to open the 'Tech Support Object 4D"

If you have issues that can't be resolved, please email a screen shot of your “Tech Support Object 4D”

For the administrator ID (This is the only one required for a single user)

CLOUD LICENSES

If you have recently moved to a Cloud license from a codemeter key, you will need to convert your library (v26 and onwards)

Please send through your Unique ID string.(Note: NOT the Company GSID)

Found here - (You will need to log in)  https://companymanagement.graphisoft.com/

For example… press this button to copy the administrator Unique ID. Or if you have multiple users go to the “Members” section and copy the User Unique ID there..

Note: The GSID is a 64 character string.. (Not the 32 Character string found in ArchiCAD or elsewhere)

Use this section if you have multiple “Members” and copy the User Unique ID here..
